Chinese imagological work added to key texts
Joep LeerssenThe fact that within China there is a thriving tradition of imagological work has been kindly brought to our attention by Dr Lin Tingcong of Jinan University. Dr. Lin drew our attention in particular to the work of Zhou Ning, Dept. of Chinese Language and Literature, Xiamen University, e.g. his 天朝遥远:西方的中国形象研究 (The Distant Celestial Empire: A Study of Western Images of China, 2. vols., 2004). Professor Chan Tak Hung, who sits on the advisory board of Studia Imagologica, confirmed that this work indeed enjoys the status of a classic point of reference in Chinese imagological studies. We are happy to place on the "Documents" section of this website an article by Professor Zhou, translated into English by Dr. Lin, presenting some of the main tenets of that study.
